SHARP DRESSED WOMAN

During our third year of studies in the spring 2016 we had a course in costume design. Half of our class were assigned to design and create costumes for a dance production called Sharp Dressed Woman, choregraphed by Virve Varjos and performed by Savonias dance instructor students. The piece was about how clothes have restricted the female body and role through decades. In this piece movements were build around the costumes instead of costumes being build around movement. In addition all costume changes were done on stage.

Our half was divided in to smaller groups to design a specific act of the production. Our group including me, Oona Vähäkangas and Anna Ukkonen was in charge of a rococo/ 18th century costume. This ensemble was made so that it could be undressed on stage and had several independent pieces, a wig, fan, sleeve ruffles, jacket, skirt, corset and a hoop petticoat.  Oona and I collaborated on the costume and Anna created the wig.
